About the Chore Wheel
Chore arguments often start with the question of who got the better deal. A chore wheel replaces negotiation with chance: everyone watches the spin, and nobody can say the parent or roommate picked favorites. The ten chores here cover common household jobs. Everyone sees the draw, so the result feels fair even when the chore is not popular.
Remove winner is on, so each chore is assigned once per round and the list shrinks as tasks are handed out. Edit it to your home, with chores sized to the age of the kids or the number of roommates. Give a chore a heavier weight if you want it to come up more often, and save the wheel for next week.
How to use it
- Edit the list so it has your household's chores, one per line.
- Spin once for each person and write down the chore.
- Use Restore to bring all chores back for the next round.
- Save the wheel so it is ready next week.
Ideas and use cases
- Families with kids who share chores
- Roommates splitting weekly cleaning
- Classroom jobs such as board cleaner and line leader
- Office kitchen rotas
- Team clean-up after an event
Frequently asked questions
How can I make it fair for younger kids?
Make separate wheels for each age group, or give age-appropriate chores to each child and use the wheel only for the shared ones.
Is a random chore wheel fairer than a rota?
It avoids the feeling that someone planned the schedule against you, but over a few weeks a fixed rota guarantees equal shares. Use whichever your household prefers.
Can I weight tough chores?
Yes. Give an unpopular chore a higher weight if you want it to come up more, or split it into smaller tasks.
