About the Random Letter Wheel
The random letter wheel lands on one of the 26 letters of the English alphabet. It is the quick way to start a word game: name an animal, a city or a food that begins with the letter that comes up. Teachers use it for phonics and spelling practice, and families use it on car rides.
Real alphabet games often skip hard letters, so the list is fully editable. Remove Q, X and Z for younger players, or turn on Remove winner so every letter is used once during a round of Scattergories. The wheel treats each remaining letter equally, which is hard to guarantee when someone just thinks of a letter.
How to use it
- Press Spin to draw a letter from A to Z.
- Delete difficult letters from the list for easier rounds.
- Turn on Remove winner so letters are not repeated within a game.
- Use Reset to bring all 26 letters back.
Ideas and use cases

Frequently asked questions
Are all letters equally likely?
Yes. Letter frequency in English does not matter here, so Z is as likely as E.
Can I remove hard letters?
Yes. Delete them from the list and the wheel redraws with the letters left.
Does it include lowercase or other alphabets?
It uses uppercase A to Z by default. You can type any characters you like into the entry list, including letters from other alphabets.
Is the letter wheel fair?
Yes. The winner is picked with the browser's cryptographic random number generator before the animation starts. The fairness check in the menu can run 10,000 simulated draws so you can compare expected and observed results.
