About the Magic 8 Ball Wheel

The Magic 8 Ball is a toy fortune teller with twenty answers: ten positive, five unclear and five negative. This wheel uses the same twenty answers. Ask a yes or no question out loud, press Spin, and the wheel returns a reply in the classic style. It works well as a party game and as a tiny ritual for a decision you have already half made.

It is entertainment, not advice, but it is good for breaking a stalemate and for starting a laugh at a party. Because the answers are weighted ten, five and five, the real toy leans positive, and so does this wheel. Edit the list if you want your own oracle with different replies, or shorten it to a simple yes or no.

    How to use it

    1. Think of a yes or no question and say it aloud.
    2. Press Spin and read the answer when the wheel stops.
    3. Spin again only if the answer says to ask later.
    4. Edit the list to write your own set of replies.

    Frequently asked questions

Are the answers the same as the real toy?

Yes. The wheel uses the standard twenty answers: ten affirmative, five non-committal and five negative.

Is the Magic 8 Ball accurate?

No. It picks randomly and knows nothing about your question. Use it for fun, not for decisions with real consequences.

Why are positive answers more common?

Half of the twenty classic answers are positive, so a positive reply is twice as likely as a negative one.

Is the Magic 8 Ball wheel fair?

Yes. The winner is picked with the browser's cryptographic random number generator before the animation starts. The fairness check in the menu can run 10,000 simulated draws so you can compare expected and observed results.
